Creed Destinations: The Maker Hotel In Hudson, New York
Rich with history, breathtaking landscapes, and a top-tier food and art scene, the Hudson Valley is an idyllic location for city dwellers looking for an escape they can take at a moment's notice. To celebrate the tenth anniversary of Aventus, we recently paid a visit to The Maker Hotel in the heart of historic Hudson, NY. Inspired by the wide range of creatives native to the Hudson Valley, the property features work from local craftsmen, global artisans, one-of-a-kind vintage pieces and an extensive art collection. Given Aventus’ sophisticated nature and celebration of those who savor a life well-lived, we couldn't think of a better place to celebrate ten years of this legendary scent.

STAY
Stepping into The Maker feels like crossing a threshold into another world where time slows down and the senses come alive. The eyes immediately begin to take in the grand spaces where no detail has been overlooked, the ears hear the crackling fireplaces and the low chatter of guests tucked into cozy corners conversing away over coffees or cocktails, and your hands immediately gravitate towards the lush textures velvet, leather, and polished wood that define each room.

But it is the sense of smell that will be particularly delighted when guests venture upstairs to one of the hotel’s most distinguishing features, a Fragrance Library curated by Lev Glazman, one of The Maker’s chief visionaries. There guests can discover a curio cabinet filled with scents from Lev’s travels across the globe, and we're honored to have the Aventus Trilogy featured among them.

When it comes time to head to your room, guests will find that each suite at The Maker is entirely unique and has its own story to tell, much like our collection of fragrances.  Channeling #Aventus10Year, we particularly enjoy The Architect Suite for it's deep, rich hues, black and white marble fireplace, and modern approach to .design, Regardless of where you wind up, each of The Maker’s eleven rooms are a sophisticated curation of different periods creating spaces where thoughtful design and comfort can exist harmoniously.

PLAY
Step outside The Maker’s front door, and you’ll find yourself on Warren Street, the very heart of vibrant Hudson. Stroll in either direction and you’ll find an abundant collection of antique shops, fashionable boutiques, and refined galleries among federal and victorian architecture. Drive across the Hudson River to the Catskill mountains where outdoor enthusiasts will be treated to hikes scattered with waterfalls and sweeping overlooks of the valley below (in the winter months, snow bunnies can hit the ski slopes as well).

To take advantage of the fall foliage, pay a visit to Olana State Historic Site. Located just nine minutes south of Hudson, the main house at Olana is situated at the top of a hill with such gorgeous views of the Hudson River below it’s no wonder Frederick Church, one of America’s most-famous landscape painters, chose to make the site the location of his home.

EAT
After a day spent strolling through Hudson’s historic district, head back to The Maker for a masterfully prepared meal in one of the hotel’s three dining spaces. For lighter fare, the café serves breads, pastries, and a delicious menu of sandwiches, salads, and soups that can be enjoyed in a space designed to be reminiscent of the best coffeehouses in Europe.

For cocktail hour, visit the hotel’s lounge. Tucked away inside the property’s restored 19th century carriage house, you’ll find a crackling fireplace and candlelit bar with an enticing selection of craft cocktails and wines, alongside a tempting menu of savory small-plates.
One of the hotel’s grandest spaces houses The Restaurant. A glass conservatory enveloped by layers of greenery, seasonal plates of contemporary American fare with an emphasis on locality can be found on the world-class menu.

How to Wear It
When designing the limited-edition anniversary bottle that houses Aventus 10, 7th generation Erwin Creed’s intention was to call-to-mind the rich heritage of the Creed family and honor the legacy of excellence and alchemy of the world’s finest, hand-selected ingredients. Likewise, it is clear The Maker has crafted a truly unique and rich venue that not only honors the history of Hudson, but also serves as a backdrop to create lasting memories for its visitors. Wearing Aventus during your stay is sure to leave an impression and will will allow you to be transported back each time you don it in the future.
